Rural Land Investments, Inc. (RLI) specializes in appraisal services and valuation of investment and recreational timberland property in South Carolina and North Carolina, as well as farmland, industrial, rural residential, and transitional property. Our staff consists of expert forestry appraisers that are certified at the highest level by the States of South Carolina and North Carolina as both Registered Foresters and Certified General Real Estate Appraisers. At RLI, we see this dual certification as necessary for meeting competency standards and developing credible valuations of woodland property. Additionally, staff appraisers are also credentialed as Certified Foresters by the Society of American Foresters, and reciprocal forestry and appraisal licenses are available in other states, including Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and states where RLI maintains regional competency.

Appraisal Services for Large, Investment Portfolios to Small, Private Tracts

Our appraisers understand both real estate markets and agricultural economics and are equipped with the necessary skills and experience to value both standing timber, the underlying land, and any improvement that may be on the property. Appraisals provided by RLI are fully compliant with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and applicable guidelines required by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Our Difference

Unlike most appraisers, our appraisal staff at RLI are dual certified as both Foresters and Appraisers—experts in both fields. As a result, our staff are not reliant on third-party timber valuations like much of our competition. Our staff are fully capable of conducting systematic inventories and creating fully supported valuations of your timber. Keeping this process in house, we are able to decrease the duration and cost of your assignment and increase the credibility of your results.

Our Partners

Due to our association with Milliken Advisors, Inc., staff at RLI share Milliken’s proven track record of more than 75 years of expertise in land asset management. As a result, RLI has access to the personnel necessary to tackle even the largest timber inventories and is able to offer additional services to our clientele not provided by competing appraisal companies. This includes timber inventory, forest planning, timber marketing and sales, recreational lease management, GIS and mapping services, and forest certification and chain of custody services through FSC® and ATFS®.
